History of Kindred in Boston

1635 - Brujah arrive in Boston, seizing an opportunity to carve out their own niche, away from the manipulating European Elders. They find the Gangrel already there and conflicts begin between the two clans. Both are surprised by the discovery that the Fae and Garou also have taken up residence in the area.
1640 - Open warfare between the supernaturals throughout the area increases, creating legends of haunted woods and magic creatures within. The Kindred stick to the kine settlements in the area, however, the death toll rises on all sides of the conflict.

1645 - Ventrue arrive in Boston, lured by the potenial wealth and power from the trade of the seaside town.

1646 - Ventrue Nathaniel Hayes declares himself the Prince of Boston and unites the Kindred to take firm hold of the "City".

1647 - Hayes holds a conference, there he proposes peace through segregation. Seperate territories for the Garou, the Fae, and the Kindred are established. The Garou agree while the Fae protest the Kine being treated as cattle by the Kindred.

1648 - Kindred begin to arrive in the new born city, despite some ongoing problems with the Fae.

1649 - Jonathan Mathews, of Clan Toreador is declared Seneschal by Hayes.

1668 - The Tremere establish a Chantry in nearby Salem, The Turner Mansion. Madeline Coventry is declared Regent of the new Chantry.

1690 - Coventry attempts to take over Boston and declare herself the Prince. The plot is exposed by the Toreador, Jonathan Matthews.

1692 - The Tremere are exposed in Salem with a major breach in the Masquerade, as the "Salem Witch Trials" begin. Accusations fly from the Tremere that Hayes and Matthews were the cause of the incident. Hayes blames the public debacle on the Sabbat. The situation is handled and the Chantry remains safe as most of the accused "Witches" were Kine. However, most of the blame lands on Matthews, a manipulation by the Tremere in revenge for his part in foiling their earlier powerplay. Matthew's reputation in Kindred society is ruined by the incident. He steps down as Seneschal and the Elders force Hayes to take a Tremere, Baladin, in his place.

Back in Europe- Not wanting a repeat of the Inquisition, the Camarilla takes a more active role in the colonies. Several Elders are dispatched to personally take control of the situation and keep an eye on Hayes. The Camarilla Council, in a unprecedented move, announces that the new Princes of New England do not have the right to give permission to Sire Childer. The Council hopes that this move will stop a repeat of the mass Embracings that occured in the 1400's.

1700 - Through manipulations by the European Kindred, the British take the colonies firmly in hand. A peace is forced between the Ventrue and the Tremere, and British troops under control of the Ventrue take over. During the next 50 years a build-up of troops is seen across New England.

1761 - A Bostonian, James Otis, speaks out against the "Writs of Assistance" at the Old State House, in open defiance of the British. John Adams, in speaking later of this speech, declared that on that day "the child Independence was born." The Brujah of Boston take note and begin to watch Otis, as do several mortals that were formerly loyal to the British, including John & Samuel Adams. Over the next 8 years, Otis organized a resistance to the British rule by sending out news letters and publicly speaking against the British repression. He was elected to the newly formed colonial assembly. In his speeches and pamphlets, Otis defined and defended colonial rights. His words also inspire several of the clans in the Colonial Camarilla who are tired of living under Ventrue/British law. He is carefully watched by both Brujah and Malkavian, both consider his Embrace.

1762 - To both clans surprise, they discover that Otis is actually a Fae. An alliance is formed between the Fae and Colonial Camarilla of Boston. They make quite a bit of headway in churning up dissent all over New England. Otis' reputation across the Colonies grows, as he becomes known simply as "The Patriot". Prince Hayes and the Camarilla loyal to the British began to take notice of Otis and try to hamper his efforts.

1764 - Otis is voted head of the assembly and Prince Hayes takes a direct hand in matters as he dominates the British Governor to Veto the election. This has a backlash across New England, as the Colonies are outraged. Otis spends the next 5 years operating from Boston and gathering strength and organizing open resistance to British rule. The younger Kindred follow his lead and help whenever possible.

1769 - Prince Hayes learns of the alliance of the Fae and the Colonial Kindred against him and the European Elders. He executes a assassination attempt against Otis. The attempt fails as the grounds chosen for the murder is actually a Fae Freehold. However, Otis, in the battle, looses himself to the Dreaming. He is declared insane and put in the care of wife and sister. The incident was blamed on a blow to the head, received from British authorities in a brutal beating.

1770 - Outraged at the loss of Otis, the mortals discontent grows. Riots began to breakout in Boston, so more British troops are called in. Without Otis the Fae/Kindred alliance collapses. The tension comes to a head on March 5, when The Boston Massacre leaves five dead. A group of British soldiers being pressed by a heckling, snowballing crowd, let loose a volley of shots. Three persons were killed immediately and two died later of their wounds. One of the latter, Crispus Attucks, so impressed the Brujah by attacking armed soldiers with his bare hands, that rather then let him die, they embraced Attucks and kept him hidden away from Prince Hayes.

The backlash from the incident was felt across all of New England as the Colonist voiced their anger. To try and help keep the peace, Hayes had the British Governor apologize for the incident and put the Captain of the British troops responsible for the incident to death.

1773 - Problems continue to grow across the colonies as more and more public anger is expressed at the British Oppression.

December 16: The Boston Tea Party took place when a group of Massachusetts Patriots, Brujah and a single Malkavian (the one who convinced them to dress like Indians) protesting the monopoly on tea importation recently granted by Parliament to the East India Company, seized 342 chests of tea in a midnight raid on three tea ships and threw them into the harbor.

1774 The Camarilla Council finds the situation in the colonies intolerable. As reports come in across New England of insurrection. Rumors of Sabbat manipulation is also spreading through the Camarilla. In response, The Council has Great Britain send in large number of troops to help keep order in the Colonies.

1775 - April 18; Paul Revere and William Dawes, Jr., ride from Boston to alert the countryside that British troops are headed to Lexington.

April 19: The shot heard round the world is fired. The Sabbat to the south reveal themselves and several southern cities fall as they use the Ventrue backed British troops to cover their activities. Prince Hayes panics and calls British troops to Boston after the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

Upon arriving, the British cut down "The Liberty Tree" where rebels were reported to gather, making a martyr of a tree stump.

May: American rebels, supported by the Colonial Camarilla begin a siege on Boston to re-take it from the British. Hit and run attacks are made on the British by the colonial rebels.

June 17: The situation comes to a head as Prince Hayes calls in more troops to remove the Rebels from the city of Boston. The Colonial Rebels under the command of William Prescott, facing overwhelming numbers, refused to retreat and prepared to make their stand on Breed’s Hill, to the southeast of Boston. The night of June 16th, before the forces were to engage, a young Malkavian who had made friends with the insane James Otis, told him of the impending battle. Otis pleaded with her to help him escape the locked room where he was kept by his family, and she did.

The still insane Otis (who was 50 by this time) secured a musket and a sword, and as the battle began the next day, showed on the line. Inspired by the sight of "The Patriot" joining the battle, and fighting with all the vigor a mad man could muster, the colonial Rebels, against over whelming odds, twice repelled the British attempts to take the hill. By the third charge they were out of powder for their muskets and were forced to retreat. Incredibly, Otis survived the battle.

The example the Battle of Bunker Hill inspired all the Colonial Rebels and tide of the war turned.

1776 - January: Seeing the tide of the war going to the Colonials, and not wanting to lose his city to the Sabbat, Prince Hayes forms an alliance with the Colonial Camarilla. He will pull back the British troops and assist the Colonials if they agree to help defend Boston from the Sabbat. A compromise is agreed upon.

March 17: Prince Hayes orders the British troops out of Boston and Washington "liberates" the city. From Boston, the now united Kindred plan to take back the southern cities that have fallen to the Sabbat. To help with this, the Camarilla Council begrudgingly restores the right to North American Princes to give permission to Sire new childer. Crispus Attucks is presented to Prince Hayes, who promises no repercussions for this breech of Kindred mandate. Over the next several years, as America gains her independence, Prince Hayes is instrumental in securing the United States of America for the Camarilla, although the Sabbat are firmly intrench in the new country. With the help of the young Malkavian and Otis, a new peace is forged between the Fae and Kindred of Boston.

1783 - James Otis is killed after being struck by Lightening. The Fae blame the Kindred for the final disposal of their beloved hero. This creates a conflict between the two supernaturals which survives to modern nights. Three months later, the War for Independence is won as England withdraws the last of their troops from American soil.

As the next decade passes, British and American tension continue, and Colonial Camarilla blame the European Elders. Prince Hayes assures the Kindred of Boston that the tension is completely mortal driven, and personally helps the cause by funding the American Navy to help protect the fledgling country.

1797 - October 21: The flag ship USS Constitution is launched from Boston Harbor.

1812 - War breaks out with England, the manipulations are proven to be Sabbat backed. The Sabbat take back several southern cities in the war but Boston remains Camarilla.

1829 - July 4th: William Lloyd Garrison speaks out against slavery at the Park Street Church. His views are received with mixed sentiment as once again rioting breaks out in the streets of Boston. The Sabbat uses the confusion to send in a invasion force. During the turmoil a assassination attempt is made by the Sabbat on Prince Hayes. Prince Hayes survives but drops into Torpor due to his wounds. The Tremere Seneschal Baladin takes control of Boston. Due to Baladin's poor leadership the Sabbat get a foot hold in Boston and for the next 3 years Boston is a contested city in the Sect war. During this time the Sabbat destroy a Garou Caern

1831 - The Giovanni appear in the city, and play both sects against one another. The Sabbat try to "frame" the Camarilla Kindred for the destruction of the Caern. This has a backlash as the Garou strike out against all Kindred.

1832 - Prince Hayes awakens and regains control of his city. Due to the situation, the Tremere are forced to accept Hayes once again as Prince. Hayes gains support from the Elders of Europe and receives help in the form of the Archon to remove the Sabbat from Boston. Hayes then convinces the Garou that the Sabbat broke the peace he had help set up almost 200 years ago. The Garou reluctantly agree to halt hostilities, due in no small part to the Giovanni, who at the request of Prince Hayes manipulated Wraiths to torment the Garou in the Umbra. Hayes agrees to allot a territory of Boston to the Giovanni in return for their help in removing the Sabbat. By November, the Sabbat are driven out of Boston and the Giovanni establish a stronghold in the north end. Prince Hayes decides on the lesser of two evil, as he accepts the Giovanni as a permanent fixture in Boston.

After several attempts, the Sabbat can not hold on to the North American cities and retreat to South America and Canada. Giving the Camarilla of America a rest from the Sect war.

1851 - The publication of "The House of Seven Gables" by Nathaniel Hawthorne forces the Tremere to abandon their Salem Chantry. Their Chantry is the mansion the fictional house was based upon and becomes a local tourist attraction. Reluctanly, they create a new Chantry in Boston. Then the Tremere learn that Toreador, Jonathan Mathews inspired Hawthorne to write the novel, exposing the Chantry in retaliation for exposing his involvement in the Salem Witch Trials and ruining his power base. Prince Hayes has no choice but to destroy his "ally" Mathews for breaching the Masquerade. However, the damage to the Tremere is done as they loose a power base, and their standing in Boston is severally weakened by the incident.

1919 - A Sabbat pack is discovered and destroyed in Boston. Several mortal deaths occur as a direct result of the battle with Lasombra. The event makes national news and Prince Hayes is visited by the Archon over the breech of Masquerade. He is cleared of charges of violating the traditions, but is chastised for coming up with such a bad cover for the Masquerade. To compensate for this he is forced to replace the Tremere Seneschal, Baladin, with Toreador elder Adonica Brooks. She is to help with more creative covers in the future.

1971 - Conflict between Fae sects spill over into Kindred society. Prince Hayes promises he will handle the situation and drive the Fae from Boston.

1991 - Boston's "The Big Dig" is the most complex and expensive highway project ever undertaken in the United States. The city is replacing an outdated highway infrastructure with a new state-of-the-art highway system, most of which will be underground or underwater. Planning for the project began in 1982, despite the best efforts of the Garou to halt the project, construction begins in September.

1995 - What the Garou fear most happens, as The Big Dig breaks into and destroy's the last Caern in Boston. After the destruction most of the Garou leave the Boston area. Later this same year, Prince Hayes take credit for manipulating the Kine to destroy the Caern, finally freeing Boston Kindred from the fear of Garou. Prince Hayes promises that the Fae are next.

1999 - A Massive Sabbat Attack breaks out across the east coast of North America. Once again Boston falls to the Sabbat. Most of the Camarilla Kindred of Boston are destroyed including Prince Hayes and Regent Coventry. Kindred society as a whole is disrupted in this year, as clan Ravnos goes mad. The clan seems to frenzy as a whole and feeds on each other. Rumors spread that there are no Ravnos left. Around the same time a Red Star appears in the night sky. Many Kindred mark this as the beginning of “The End Days“.

2000 - The Camarilla begins a campaign to take back the east coast and to reinforce defenses of cities that have not fallen to the Sabbat. To this end, Princes across the world are "encouraged" to expel Caitiff and all thin-bloods from their cities, as “most are simply spying for the Sabbat“. Some go as far as ordering all thin-bloods in a domain destroyed. Other Camarilla Princes declare that “Noddist” are to be sought out and removed from the city, claiming that all they are doing is twisting current events and causing panic.

2002 After two years of careful planning to weaken the hold the Sabbat has over the City of Boston. Toreador Adonica Brooks, with the blessing of the Camarilla Council and support of the Archon, launches a campaign to take back the Sabbat held domain. Five War Coteries converge on the city, and with reliable intelligence on Sabbat movements and strongholds, recover the city after three nights of battle.

The Masquerade is maintained during this time as riots break out across the city and a MIT vs Harvard Halloween prank is blamed for old corpses and bones scattered about Bean Town. The Camarilla gathers to celebrate their victory and declare Adonica Brook Prince of the City. The Archon continues the battle with the last hold out of the Sabbat as Arch Bishop Vasgold refuses to give up the mansion he called home. The Gathering is held at the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

A collection of world-renowned glass flowers are destroyed by unknown forces during the gathering. However, several acts of vandalism, an attack by Sabbat war ghouls, and even some out right hostility between independent clans Giovanni and Gangrel fails to put a damper on the festivities. However, the evening ends on a bit of a down note as the Archon and the new Prince are seen at the Gathering having a public disagreement. By the end of the evening former Primogen of the Toreador Ambrose Stapleton fails to make an appearance and is feared lost. Ventrue Elder Fiona Hayes mysteriously disappears from the Gathering and does not answer a summons by The Prince.
