FIREBRAND Author/Player: Ed Han Conditions for Use: Firebrand is sort of like Booster Gold (early on) as played by Will Smith (circa Independence Day) but with some of the same powers as the Human Torch. He gets distracted easily, especially by a pretty face, but is slowly coming to realize that there's more to being a hero than merchandising deals and hanging out in clubs. *Dialogue*: "I'm jiggy with it!" "That's the difference between me and you. I make this look *good*." "O, man, I gotta get me one of these!" *Tips for Portrayal*: Generally, he loves to be the center of attention, so long as it's positive attention. Will gloryhound/showboat anytime there's cameras and has a knack for finding them. Like several other prominent African-Americans (Shaquille O'Neal, Queen Latifah), Dennis Carter grew up in inner city Newark (with all that implies). He was trying to use basketball as a way out until his powers manifested during a college game. He was then suspended from sports and his scholarship revoked, without which he was forced to drop out of school. He has a short fuse and also does not possess complete control of his powers. If hit with flame while in his non-superpowered persona, he will also erupt into his flame form. *Abilities*: - Flame powers. Firebrand can take on a flame-sheathed form which allows him to fly at 96 mph (by projecting out from his feet) or shoot jets of flame (in varying sizes). - Flame field. Firebrand can also shroud himself in a nimbus of flame which extends 5 feet from his body. It is powerful enough to protect him from most common types of attack. - Absorption. Firebrand is able to absorb flame, which invigorates him. Also, when he absorbs beyond a certain amount, he becomes faster. - Adaptation. Firebrand's powers stem from a dimensional rift to what may be considered to be like the Elemental Plane of Fire (AD&D…dead and unfortunately, not forgotten). As a result, bizarre fluctuations in his immediate environment do not directly cause him distress. Firebrand is also quite wealthy, owing to his several merchandising deals and his cut of the sales of his comic book. *Limitations*: Powers are fickle. While in use, if Firebrand is distracted, there is a chance that his powers will cut out. *Supporting Cast*: Matilda Carter, mother. Sample dialogue: "God has a special plan for my boy, yes he does." Drew Osterhaus, agent. Sample dialogue: "Look, Firebrand is crazy about working with Marvel, but if Homage Studios is willing to pay more, well, what can I say? Help me help you!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Han, Ed" Subject: Brief Profile: firebrand Date: Wed, 10 Jun 1998 10:12:14 -0400 description: 6', approximately 180 lbs. in good physical condition (used to play basketball on a scholarship). sort of resembles will smith but no facial hair. smiles a lot, good looking in a "nice guy" sort of way, which he banks on heavily in the merchandising deals. costume: currently using a crimson bodystocking with gauntlets and large boots and a matching domino mask. usually counts on the heat from the flames he generates to prevent ready identification (yes, he thinks he can pull off a secret identity). notes: is having a club built in an abandoned warehouse on the docks in LA to be called "the hot spot." if you're interested in seeing a menu, let me know. in the real world, firebrand is currently being played in an actual V&V campaign. use him for description, dialogue, simple actions, but try not to do anything too dramatic; would prefer to incorporate stuff from the game here and there's a few surprises that are coming to a head. if in a fight, he generally will try to provide air cover and stuff unless there's someone cute on the other side... ed
